Mike Roberts read Engineering at university, but has worked mostly in Information Technology and Education, holding technical and managerial posts in the UK, East Africa and France.  He is a member of the British Computer Society.  He completed his Certificate in Teaching English to Adults at the University of Gloucestershire in 2001 and joined ACT later that year.  In his spare time, he enjoys classical music, sport and DIY.

Richard Edwards joined us in 2000.  An honours degree in languages, eight years in Training and Development in the insurance industry, and a qualification in Teaching English as a Foreign Language led him to Business English training work in Turkey, Spain and the UK.  In 2003 he gained a Certificate in Teaching International English for Business.

Phil Varley worked as a Senior Bank Manager before taking early retirement and qualifying in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.  He brings considerable experience of the banking industry, human resources and in-company training, as well as homestay courses which he has run at his own home for Swiss business clients.

Sas Browne holds a degree in French and Italian.  She has worked in property sales and marketing,  as a freelance writer and editor and as an executive secretary for BP in Scotland, before moving abroad to live in Nigeria, Qatar, Brunei, Indonesia and Egypt.  After becoming a language trainer she worked in Paris in-company teaching professional English.  Her interests include yoga and travel.  She joined the team in 2005.

Pauline Eden holds a degree in Textile Design, and joined us after training to teach English as a Foreign Language in Bristol.  She has developed her own skills by undertaking external training, attending conferences and taking part in our regular in-house training sessions.  She sees her aims as “supporting innovation in course design and content, and developing ways of personalising course plans.”   She is active in developing new training materials.  At home, Pauline saved her village shop from closure by taking over its management in a cooperative.

Julie Savage joined us after five years as a Business English trainer in Poland, dealing in particular with Human Resources, Pharmaceuticals, Marketing, Tourism and Construction.  Prior to this she owned her own business in the UK for fifteen years.  She holds a CELTA qualification and a Certificate in Teaching Business Skills.  She trained with Abbey Communication in August 2006

Anne Waldron has lived in the UK, New Zealand, Kenya and France.  As a shop manager in France she was responsible for stock orders, business accounts and maintaining supplier and customer relations.  She then worked for eleven years as a Business English trainer, returning to the UK in 2000.  “I have always found that the most progress is made with clients who feel confident and enjoy what they are doing,” she says.  Her interests include travel, music, photography and tennis.

Sarah Voller spent four years in Spain working in retail and airfreight management, and has managed projects in the tourism industry.  A languages graduate, she also holds qualifications in translation, English Language Teaching and business studies.  She trained with Abbey Communication in August 2006.
